Still working on that post called “Blago’s Going To Jail.” Hope to finish it before he does, but either way it will hold.
Working on a follow-up to this post about the absolutely mystifying move by the Reader.
In the meantime, these items will have to suffice. And I think they do, quite nicely in fact.
1. From the Sun-Times editorial “board”:
June 24, 2010: “Say Yes To Pullman Wal-Mart.”
July 26, 2010: “Narrowing Wage Gap Would Help Economy.”
2. “Andrew ‘Flip’ Filipowski, Chicago’s pied piper of the Internet, who burned through $1 billion at the peak of the dot-com bubble, is back,” Crain’s reports.
“The ponytailed software entrepreneur, who lined up some of the city’s biggest names – from William Wrigley Jr. to Michael Jordan – a decade ago as investors in Divine Inc., is embarking on his fourth act in Chicago.
“He founded Naperville-based software company DBMS Inc. in 1979 and was forced out, then made a fortune in the late ’90s selling his next software company, Oakbrook Terrace-based Platinum Technology Inc., to a competitor. He later presided over one of the most flamboyant flameouts of the dot-com era when Divine Inc., a collection of Internet companies, went bankrupt in 2003.”
3. If Daley Runs . . . And Loses.
4. “Our people ask: What gives with this mayor?” local FBI chief Robert Grant tells Neil Steinberg. “He’s always embarrassing his employees. What you need from a mayor is someone who will stand up and set a tone for this city.”
Perhaps someone like Robert Grant? Patrick Collins? Patrick Fitzgerald?
5. Point Break Live! A new Johnny Utah chosen from the audience every night!
Beachwood field trip?
6. “Gov. Quinn has formed an anti-violence commission to gather testimony from those affected by violence,” AP reports.
Um, maybe testimony from those who commit violence would be more helpful. Why do you do it? What would get you to stop? If you lived in Lincoln Park would you still do it?
7. How many of you saw the Sun-Times headline “This Is The Story Of Why They Won’t Stop Shooting In Chicago” and immediately thought the story would be nothing of the sort?
Me too.
8. “[T]here’s a lot bigger fish out there than Mr. DelValle and Mr. Sanchez,” attorney Martin Dolan said last week after Aaron DelValle and Al Sanchez were convicted – again – in connection with corrupt city hiring.
“Dolan declined to elaborate but said it was ‘obvious’ who was responsible to anyone who followed the trial.”
9. The Beachwood Media Company is proud to present Ballots From The Dead.
10. “R. Kelly Ex-Lawyer Will Have Last Word in Trial of Ousted Ill. Gov.”
Hope he doesn’t bring the wrong speech.
11. Headline of the Day.
12. Pitchfork vs. Tom Petty, Sting & Lilith Fair: Compare and contrast.
13. There Is No God: My Boys Returns.
14. I Am A Security Guard: And A Voyeur.
15. From The Beachwood Sports Desk:
* Wanted: A Fans’ Manager. In The Cub Factor.
* All Talk? In The White Sox Report.
* At the ol’ ballpark, an Old Style or Bud will do. In SportsMonday.
* The High Plains Bison Grilled Meatloaf Sandwich. A Wrigley Review from Agony & Ivy.
16. Roadside Robbery.

The Beachwood Tip Line: Agony, ivy and the other.
