Chicago - A message from the station manager

The [Wednesday] Papers

By Steve Rhodes

An abbreviated column again today as I’ll be live-blogging the impeachment trial once more over at NBCChicago.com. My minders are really happy about the traffic, so come on over and give me another boost. Plus, it’s the least boring, most entertaining live-blog of the impeachment trial going. Here’s what we’ve done so far.
* Blogging Blago Live Day One
* Blogging Blago Live Day Two.
Also new on the Beachwood today:
* Blago, Greta and Rachel in What I Watched Last Night.
In other news . . .

Kid Cop
Mayor Hot Over Kid Cop.”
A) Wonders why he didn’t think of it before
B) But cools down when realizes 14-year-olds don’t have to join the union
C) Was supposed to be hired as a building inspector instead
D) Kid Cop movie will make us look bad
“Heads Will Roll”
Apparently in Chicago you can torture suspects by attaching electrodes to men’s testicles and keep your job, but if you accidentally send a 14-year-old out on patrol you’re history.
Hero of the Day
Vincent Richardson, word up!
Best Story Ever
“Teen even drove squad car, source says.”
His partner gave him the keys?
“One source said he was told the teenager ‘coded a couple of assignments,’ meaning he used police codes to let a dispatcher know how he and his ‘partner’ were handling particular calls.”
They should have known something was up when he asked to be patched through to Fish.
Golden Parachute
Does the kid cop qualify for a pension now?
Stuffed
The Sun-Times played the story (rightly so) on its front page. The Tribune – in its tabloid edition – went with “A New Way To Beat Traffic: State Web site offers perhaps clearest picture yet of Chicagoland commute” instead. The kid cop story was five paragraphs on page 28. Did they let the old regime back in to edit today’s paper or something?
