“Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s plan to protect ‘outside parties’ who blow the whistle on City Hall corruption ran into unexpected opposition Tuesday from aldermen concerned about being falsely accused of shakedowns after standing up to problem businesses,” the Sun-Times reports.
Now you know how we feel!
Solution: Require aldermen to wear wires 24/7 until the city goes five years without one of ’em being indicted.
Criminal Justice
“Davis had been 19 when he was arrested, and during the dozen years until that letter arrived, the Chicago native always believed he would be exonerated,” the Tribune reports.
“He was sentenced to 80 years without parole. Prosecutors had pushed to have him executed. In prison, Davis soon found that when someone is convicted of raping and killing a child, fellow inmates are only too happy to carry out a death sentence.
“Davis was 50 when he was released from prison this summer, thanks to DNA evidence uncovered by Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions.
“He had been behind bars 31 years, 10 months and 29 days, the longest any Illinois inmate has served before being exonerated by DNA testing, Davis’ attorneys said.”
In other words, if prosecutors had gotten their way, Davis would have been murdered. Instead, they just stole almost 32 years from him.
Double Dick Standard
Dear sports punditry: It’s never okay to be a dick, win or lose, rich or poor, tall or short, black or white, fat or thin. Special rules for “winners” – like special rules for the rich – defeat the whole point of the kind of society we’re all trying to live in. Jay Cutler should grow up – and so should his apologist enablers.

“Cutler may have learned yet another offensive coordinator’s playbook, but he doesn’t seem to have learned any lessons.”
Krafty Pat
“Gov. Pat Quinn’s push to have his chief spokeswoman named as head of the state agency that operates U.S. Cellular Field could be in jeopardy after Mayor Rahm Emanuel raised concerns that he prefers a manager with ‘proven experience,'” the Tribune reports.
Really, Pat?
“Kelly Kraft has interviewed for the executive director job at the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority. Kraft is a former Fox 32 reporter who joined the Quinn administration in 2009 as a budget office spokeswoman. Later, she was promoted to assistant budget director before being named Quinn’s top spokeswoman in July at an annual salary of $111,000.”
Then again, Emil Jones (D-ObamasGodfather) holds the post now so it must not be a serious job.
Asked after Friday’s executive session why Kraft was there, Jones offered a coy response. “Oh, she’s a beautiful lady. She’s a model,” Jones said. Asked if Kraft is being considered for the executive director job, Jones replied, “We’re not doing any hiring right now.” He declined to answer further questions.
