The [Thursday] Papers

By Steve Rhodes

It won’t be long now until I find out just how brilliant – or not – I was for buying the URL lebronisabull.com . . . I always thought it would turn out in the end that Jesse Jackson Jr. was cooperating with the feds this whole time or would otherwise be cleared, but this testimony makes him out as both a sleazeball and a liar . . . No one in our fair city found the Jackson revelations more satisfying than Richard M. Daley, whose wild cackles could surely be heard for blocks around City Hall . . . this story made me dumber, not smarter; totally lacking in any sort of context. Reporting isn’t just quoting people . . .

“So now we’re gonna see some little kids in Chicago wearing Bulls jerseys with this on the back: ‘Boozer,'” Richard Roeperwrites” today. “I think some adults ALREADY have jerseys with that on the back. Or at least they should.” Stop it, you’re killing me! No seriously, stop it. You’re killing me . . . I’ve already spent more time on this column than Roeper spent on his . . . If only this was Rod Blagojevich’s fingernail . . . In fact, I’m thinking about doing mine that way today . . . By the way, Lindsay Lohan’s handwriting is phenomenal . . . Hey, here’s an idea: Celebrity Prison Apprentice: Blago and LiLo compete to see who will rule their pod . . . Quentin Young is right, of course; if only we elected a change agent as president . . . Can we just start Illinois over? . . . Current and past officeholders not allowed to re-apply for their old jobs . . . We’ve added part of Neil Peart’s drum solo to our collection of video from Rush’s show at Northerly Island on Monday night . . . Also, a new special episode of Slacker P.I. . . . This world is an experiment gone terribly wrong . . . NYC is totally bummed . . . That’s all I have time for today, I’ll be back tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy these wholly relevant selections . . .
