It’s a sprint from here to Election Day next Tuesday as I attempt to empty my digital notebooks into a series of posts on each of the major candidates and other campaign-related issues. No promises, but I’m trying.
In the meantime . . .
Today on the campaign trail . . .
I’m actually leaning toward voting for Lightfoot, but the polls have been all over the place, and once again certain sectors of the media that never learn their lesson have recklessly published them despite obvious methodological problems rendering them close to useless. So I bring this to you not because I think it’s true, though Lightfoot certainly has the momentum right now, but because this is a real bullshit move – mimicking the bullshit moves of the other campaigns – without revealing a source and methodology.
We’re in first place in a new poll! Retweet to spread the word and donate $10, $25, or whatever you can contribute today to power our grassroots movement ➡️ https://t.co/jqUeVqcNxJ pic.twitter.com/FMfc46YQiy

Speaking of source and methodology, it appears Lightfoot’s source is this Jerry Joyce poll, whose methodology is, shall we say, suspect. C’mon, Lori!
(And poor Jerry Joyce, he paid for the poll and purportedly came in at 10% – ahem – and got cut off in Lightfoot’s graphic, heh-heh.)
NEW Snapshot from the @joyce4mayor campaign:
Lightfoot 18%
Preckwinkle 14%
Wilson 12%
Chico, Daley, Mendoza 11%
Joyce 10%(Note: Campaign poll, done online Feb 14-15)

Mary Ann Ahern never met a poll she didn’t like; I could send her one right now of the coffee shop I’m in and she’d post it as legitimate. It’s malpractice, and she never seems to learn.
*
On the other hand, Ahern is at her best – a bulldog, as we all should be – when it comes to media access and transparency. I just wish she would name names sometimes.
When I hang up after being reprimanded from a former reporter who now is PR for a public official/candidate and that person tells you “I know how it is, I was a reporter too” I think, well I will NEVER do what you’re doing now …

Now I’m mentally going thru the list of people who qualify under this description to figure out who you are talking about…I have a few ideas. 🤔
— John Chase (@chasejohn) February 21, 2019
Me too. Sadly, there are too many ex-reporters working for public officials/campaigns these days to say definitively if it is who I think it is. Anyone? I’d like to hear all the tales.
*
Agreed.
Polls are all over place. Just everyone go out and vote for their candidate.

Meanwhile . . .
It was my pleasure to endorse my friend @lightfootforchi for Mayor of Chicago. Lori is a coalition-builder. She’s the right person to bring the city together. As she likes to say, and as I like to say, #BringInTheLight! #Twill pic.twitter.com/DwLeei5PTL

This is the second straight meeting where Toni Preckwinkle has bailed on her post-meeting press conference. I don’t recall her skipping any others since I started covering her in May. https://t.co/AlGdEzsobU

I don’t read Spanish, but I think it says “I will never speak to the media again.” https://t.co/WagaHftrFt

This is how she’ll govern, folks.

Preckwinkle did finally grant an interview yesterday, after nearly a month of dodging the media. I haven’t watched this yet, but here ya’ go.
*
$100K from Fred Eychaner, who allegedly had Ben Joravsky fired from WCPT so he wouldn’t criticize Toni. Has anyone asked her about that? https://t.co/PoPJ2VynwP

I thought she was supposed to be too busy in Springfield tonight and thus unable to attend Joe Moreno’s fundraiser, as previously scheduled before Joe’s shenanigans … https://t.co/nwONRAwkTO

There’s that second million from Ken Griffin. Also, don’t eat at Lou Malnati’s anymore. https://t.co/LhgEIbfM53

That sounds about right.
