Chicagoetry: Life

By J.J. Tindall

Life
Life is a series of deaths:
self outlasts self outlasts self.
Yesterday remanded to the shelf,
today is the tongue of the bell.
Life is a series of deaths:
resented parents, neglected siblings,
forsaken friends finally become
what they always were: true saints.

Good Afternoon Steve,
I’m a community manager working on behalf of Ford, and am reaching out to bloggers in the Midwest region to gauge interest in participating in the second chapter of the Ford Fiesta Movement.
I’ve actually read your blog, and do understand the focus isn’t cars. But we all drive – and based on your online presence and location, I thought you (and perhaps your readers) might benefit from knowing more about this.

Chicago A-to-Z

By Tim Steil
A – is for Alderman. A provider of new garbage cans two days before the election.
B – is for Boystown, a very nice neighborhood full of very nice people, and very nice restaurants and bars. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
C – is for Cubs, a baseball team, and a state of mind that is slowly making its way into the DSM-IV.
D – is for Daley, deal with it. You can probably get a sweet contract out of it if you know how to keep your mouth shut and can deal with a little federal time.

At Your Service: Holiday Hoedown

By Patty Hunter

I cannot express the relief I feel that the holiday season is over. No more running out of things a restaurant should never run out of (no more pizza pans? really?), no more trying to figure out how to cram not just the usual crowd into our tiny restaurant but their shopping bags as well. If I see one more American Girl doll for the next two months it will get annihilated. Happy holidays my ass.
One night at the beginning of the holiday season, a group of five came in. One of the women was obviously not in shape to drink more alcohol. The server was told by the manager on duty to tell her she could not order an alcoholic drink from us. This did not go over well. The group threatened to leave and the manager told them they could go ahead. The conversation went something like this. You may want to skip over this if you’re not a fan of profanity.
