Chicagoetry: The Moon Wanes Over The Lagoon

By J.J. Tindall

THE MOON WANES OVER THE LAGOON

A large face of white glare followed me,
Like eyes in a proper painting,

Up Kedzie Avenue
along the west side

Of the park boom boom black summer night, cool blue breeze, Grand Avenue
a corridor of light like the "Time

Tunnel." I smiled, morphed a bit into James Darren.
Boom that blistered, bald Madonna

Was my spotlight.
I jogged in rhythm with the stoplights.

Boom the black oaks along the lagoon
Became a sighing Stonehenge. The moon waned

Over the lagoon (stop) . . .
and then the earth swayed

Back toward autumn. The black oaks will break out in quiet fire, then the fire
Will die

and dissolve
into the lawns
