Chicagoetry: Happy

Two weeks ago
I was happy
For about 10 minutes!

It was really cool and

Now the insomniac sky
Glows with light pollution
Reflecting off the low, wet

More silent, if distant, joy.
When that good wave comes

You mean to hang on
For dear, brief life, you
Don't want to share, or

Vent. You hum!
You reel! You feel so good
You worry God

Will seek sure vengeance!

Like the moon joy
Waxes, for a few seconds peaks,
Then wanes.

Things get back
To normal:

The weight, the heft,
Of persistent loss.
This we share.

But just stop
And look: sometimes
Joy is there.

You long to hoard it
Like golden light

Under a low,
Wet cloud.
