The Weekend Desk Report

Welcome to 2008, folks. We're still here, watching for you.

Market Update
Question: If a market plunges in the forest and there's no one there to pay it, are we still totally screwed?

National Frustration League
The NFL playoffs begin this weekend, and despite an impressive showing from the Colts, is it any wonder the Patriots are such runaway favorites to win?

Race to Decide
Now that almost 1% of the population has thrown its support to Mike Huckabee and Barak Obama, it's time to turn our attention to the 41st most populace state. Should the Iowa victors hold their advantages, each will be well on his way to building a mandate almost as formidable as President Bush in 2004.

Triumvirate Update
The New Year has brought old tricks from our favorite temperamental triad. Britney Spears has once again shown her willingness to go nuclear by refusing to hand over key assets. Meanwhile, despite a brief lull over Christmas, Lindsay Lohan has fallen off the wagon. Again. And finally, Paris Hilton has hinted she may reconcile with the United States after recent frostiness. Analysts note the international program of sanctions may at last be having an effect.

Stakes Alert
We usually don't like to post odds on year-long races this early, but it looks like we have a flat-out front runner in the Greediest Corporate Bastards 2008 Invitational.
