The Weekend Desk Report

For completists, there was no column on Friday, as there often isn't. Mostly that's because it's podcast day.

I don't care about the weather. Just go about your lives, what does the weather have to do with anything?!

*

I guess I just don't live a weather-dependent life. Maybe if I was a professional river rafter?

*

I will say, the glare on my screen from the only plausible place for me to sit in this coffee shop is really killing this column by sapping my will. So maybe the weather is affecting me today in terms of cloud cover and the lack thereof.

*

This is the kind of "weather" that interests me: "Fresh evidence suggests that the universe is expanding faster today than it did in its infancy, a difference that has set off a search to understand what cosmic forces could be at play. If confirmed, the changing rate - which is nine percent faster than had been projected - would force us to reconsider a fundamental aspect of the cosmos."

But did this report lead the news anywhere outside of scientific outlets? No! I mean, it's only about a fundamental aspect of the cosmos.

Everyone who packed a church for Easter should've packed a lecture hall to hear about this instead.

*

Guess what? The real experts on climate change will tell you it's too late. We blew it. Way to go, everyone! Good job. You killed the planet. And Jesus ain't coming back to save us.
