The Weekend Desk Report

By Natasha Julius

Sure, we'll watch the stories for you this weekend. It's not like there are any massively compelling football games scheduled or anything.

Market Update
Stocks suffered a third consecutive day of losses as markets absorbed the news of a planned merger between Bad Taste, Bad News and Bad Judgment. Analysts point out it's consumers who will lose out in the long run.

Axing the Fat
Apparently unsettled by recent poll numbers, Cook County Board President Todd Stroger has made a last-ditch effort to impress voters by eliminating costly county employees. While some view the move as purely political, Stroger's camp insists the firings are part of an aggressive campaign to reduce budget expenditures by as much as 90%.

Just Desserts
In historical revisionist news, remember back when the British were the major colonial power here in America? Yeah, well, revenge is sweet.

Mr. Brightside
Meanwhile, U.S. band The Killers announced this week they were canceling a planned tour of Asia after realizing it would be in incredibly poor taste.

All A-Twitter
Finally this week, attorneys for Roman Polanski have embraced emergent technologies in their bid to fight the director's extradition to the United States. Arguing that the Internet has revolutionized everything from dating to parenting, lawyer Chad Hummel said there is no reason his client should have to appear in court in person. In response, Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza angrily Tweeted " OMGYG2BK!"
