The [Wednesday] Papers

"Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan on Tuesday accused electric utility Commonwealth Edison Co. of asking its customers to foot the bill for $87.9 million in employee bonuses - a practice she said is illegal," the Tribune reports.

"Madigan's office said it uncovered the bonuses, tied to Exelon stock, in ComEd's rate hike request before the Illinois Commerce Commission."

Here's my favorite part:

"A ComEd spokesman Tuesday evening said he could not make an executive available for comment, saying that the company was busy dealing with outages from Monday's storm."

Nothing like questions about bonus pay to spark a ComEd executive's interest in attending to storm outages.

"Meanwhile, Quinn defended his appointment of [Erica] Borggren, who has no transportation experience, saying her military career has more than prepared her for the job."

Because she once drove a Jeep?

"The Federal Reserve on Tuesday levied a $3.5 million penalty against Chicago-based Cole Taylor Bank over accusations of deceptive practices related to its checking accounts for college students," the Tribune reports.

"U.S. auto sales hit levels in June not seen since before the financial crisis that led to the bankruptcy of two American automakers, posting the best annualized figures in eight years," Reuters reports.

I bet we could hit 39 million!
