The [MLK Day] Papers

Because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, we will have an abbreviated Beachwood today.

1. King in Chicago.

2. The [MLK Day] Papers 2007.

3. In the name of love. Beachwood Papers/Jan 21, 2008.

4. Item: Indiana Wants Me/April 7, 2008

5. Blago's Kingdom For A Lawyer.

6. A Cowsills record as good as Pet Sounds. In Bin Dive.

7. I haven't looked at the new tabloid version of the Tribune which debuts today yet, but my initial thought upon hearing that it was coming was that it was smart to produce different versions for different readers, particularly considering that it apparently will still contain all the news that is in the broadsheet version. I like how they're calling it the "to-go" version.

8. Blago still acting like he's governor.

9. The real reasons why Blago's lawyers quit.

10. I've been making an argument for years that Bob Dylan is the greatest artist of the 20th century, and perhaps of all-time. Who else? Shakespeare? Maybe. Picasso? I don't think so. Beethoven? Not quite.

But Martin Luther King Jr. is probably my all-time hero. I place him above Abe Lincoln and all the other presidents; is he not the greatest American of all time?

I'm sure there are arguments for others, but MLK was above and beyond American politics. And his strategy of non-violence is underrated among others in the world today earnestly or merely purportedly seeking justice.

I don't really have anything else to say that hasn't been said, except that this day, on which we honor King (and his movement), is the best, most thoughtful American holiday, isn't it? It's a holiday in which we still contemplate what his life meant.

The Beachwood Tip Line: MLK is the way.
