The [Friday] Papers1. There Is A Thing Called The Chicago French Bulldog Rescue And They Saved 23 Puppies From A Hot Moving Truck This Week. "The puppies were found inside a tightly packed plastic crate in a moving van in Texarkana, Texas," WTHR-TV in Indianapolis reports, for some reason. - "Chicago French Bulldog Rescue was launched to protect French Bulldogs from neglect, abuse, loss of family and theft. We rescue them from animal shelters and puppy mills. We help families and individuals that can no longer care for their Frenchies. We are shepherds of the breed working to educate about French Bulldogs and most importantly, placing rescued Frenchies into loving homes." 2. Stolen Cat Returned To Homeless Man. "Not all of John's circumstances are known, but he's a homeless man who lives on the busy corner of Michigan Avenue and Ohio Street with his cat, Faith," CBS2 Chicago reports. "He is said to have saved Faith from bad circumstances about a year ago. The pair had been inseparable ever since." "It is unknown whether the woman who stole the cat is facing charges." 3. 22 Dogs And Two Chickens Rescued. "Twenty-two dogs and two chickens have been rescued from a house in suburban Harvey, where they had little food and no human care," ABC7 Chicago reports. "[T]he South Suburban Humane Society says the animals were abandoned after their owner went to prison months ago. The animals have been living in filth. "A relative would periodically come in and toss down a bag of dog food, but the animals had no other human interaction or medical care. "Volunteers were moved to tears watching the dogs touch grass again." 4. New Microchip Scanner Program Will Bring Lost Chicago Pets Home More Quickly. "A new donation to the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Animal Care and Control can help bring lost pets home more quickly and easily," CLTV reports. "Best Friends Animal Society and Animal Farm Foundation have donated 60 mobile microchip scanners to both CPD and CACC." "The mobile scanners allow police officers and animal control officers to scan a pet's microchip, which contains the pet's home address, while they're out in the field. Then the pets can be returned immediately without needing to be processed in the city shelter." 5. Clear The Shelters: Find A Chicago-Area Shelter Near You. "For the fourth straight year, NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago are teaming up with animal shelters to waive adoption fees across the Chicago area and help pets in need find forever homes. The pet adoption initiative known as Clear the Shelters takes place nationwide 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 18." Find a Chicago-area shelter near you. - New on the Beachwood today . . .
